Trabant 601 (or Trabant P601) is a model that had several variants, produced by Car Factory VEB Sachsenring in Zwickau, German Democratic Republic. This was the third Trabant model, its production took place between 1963 and 1990, therefore Trabant 601 became the model of the longest production and best known; it’s mostly referred to as ‘Trabant’, or ‘Trabi’, without precising the type. 2 818 547 models were built, and this was the car sold in the highest number in the history of GDR.
Trabant 601 Tramp was added in 1978 as a civilian version of the Trabant Kübel (meaning ‘bucket’) The Tramp was mainly exported to Greece, and was used for the protection of the Berlin Wall in the German Democratic Republic.
