The Model of SL published in ’70s most people knows only as “Bobby-Merci”, because its brightest and longest film success was in film-series Dallas as car of Bobby Ewing.
The #107 box of Mercedes can be ordered in two design, first as R107 the other as C107. The difference between the two can be observed on the roof, the “C “meant coupe, i.e. variant with two doors and hard roof, whilst the “R” the cabriole. The “R” variant was called SL, and the “C” SLC. The wheel base of the latter was almost 40 cm shorter, and there were a lot more variant known: open top, hard top, soft top, i.e. open, canvas hood, and hard-roof.
The 107 came down from production line in 1971, and appeared as “new SL”. The series SL has conquered the hearth of costumers; the first representative was the “gullwing”, i.e. 300 SL, dream-car for many. It was prepared as a corpulent sport-car, has always been the flagship of the brand.
For the car – first of all because of its character – was devoted a serious sporting carrier, it appeared not only as course-car, but it was successful in the rally-world too. The AMG introduced more tuning variant as well, which were used in the street-traffic too.
